PAIR OF CONTINENTAL PORCELAIN VASES  

Unmarked, probably France, 2nd half 19th century

Each oviform vase flanked by two gilt handles, realistically modeled as lion-like mystical creatures,

both vases are finely painted with genre scenes within shaped oval cartouches decorated with gilt beads and flower garlands,

one scene depicting a bare breasted seated mother feeding her sleeping baby, with her two other kids next to her,

and the other a humorous scene with a kid sitting at a table in front of his mother secretly trying to give away food from his plate to a dog,

the reverse of each vase is painted with a bouquet of flowers against white background within a similar gilt bead and flower garland decorated cartouche

Hight 22 1/2 in. (57 cm)
