A PAIR OF GRACHEV PATINATED BRONZE FIGURES  “Sentries”

Cast by C.F. Woerffel after the model by Vasili Grachev (1831-1905), dated 1877

Both on naturalistic round bases, realistically cast as a male and a female sentry holding pistols

Each figure signed on base in Cyrillic “LEP. GRACHEV” with a foundry mark “FABR. C.F. WOERFFEL ST. PETERSBURG”

and a Finance Ministry stamp, dated 1877

Hight: woman 9 1/4  in. (23,5 cm), man 9 1/8 in. (23,2 cm)

CONDITION:

Areas of some rubbing to patina, otherwise good condition.

NOTE:

Inspired by Vasily Polenov’s painting “The Lookout”.
