NOTE:
Konstantin Konstantinovich Kuznetsov arrived in Los Angeles from Russia in 1948. His illustrations and paintings, influenced by Ilya Repin’s historical paintings and Belinin’s fairy-tale folk style, quickly found favor with the Russian community
In the 1950s, Kuznetsov met the Russian-born Sonia Colefax, who was quickly captivated by his style of painting, particularly his detailed, idealized works of Russia’s past. Colefax eventually commissioned and purchased 56 of Kuznetsov’s works, including this painting.
