In 1586 Russian Tsar Feodor Ivanovich, son of Ivan the Terrible, commissioned a huge cannon. Also known as the Tsar’s Cannon, weighing almost 40 tons it was intended as a showpiece of Russian military might and engineering. It is decorated with reliefs, including one depicting Tsar Feodor Ivanovich on a horse. The cannon is located within the walls of the Moscow Kremlin next to the Tsar Bell, a similarly massive bell thought never to have rung. Per the Guinness Book of Records it is the largest bombard by caliber in the world.
